Start a Group

Community Groups are smaller communities of like-minded people who share similar interests or passions. These groups meet all over the borough, meeting on different days, at different times and locations, and they come in all different shapes and sizes.

As you may know, every Group has three ingredients to it:

Common Interest

Groups meet around something they enjoy doing together which is, after all, a key ingredient to making genuine friendships. Some groups eat together and others walk together. Some groups sew and knit together, and other groups workout and exercise together. Other interests include: cycling, board games, Bible study, personal development, young families, prayer, fine food and the interests just keep getting wider! We have a full list of the interests our groups share ready to send to you when you register your interest.

The second ingredient is that Groups must have a sense of mission. There must be an outward focus to their meeting together that exemplifies the kind of open and welcoming spirit that Jesus carried. We are enabling inwardly caring groups of people, we want empower groups to grow and think of others when they gather. Some groups actively take part in social justice initiatives, some visit community centres and other groups simply open their doors to anyone who wants to join in (whether they be from the church or just a friend-of-a-friend who wants to visit).

Lastly, discipleship is simply an understanding that we must help each other grow spiritually. As each group is different, this happens in different ways. Some groups simply engage each other in purposeful conversation, group members pray for one-another from time to time and other groups are structured in a way that helps individuals learn about God and faith. Whichever form this take, groups need to create a culture of discipleship so that we are growing as believers.
