Stories at Home

“Home is where the heart is.” If God lives within us, we can fill our homes with His presence and purpose.

We have the potential to create a loving, growing, serving culture within our homes. Imagine if your home wasn’t just exclusively ‘your space’ but an open place to share life with others. It’s easy for us to neglect our home because of busyness or familiarity. Let’s instead learn to create moments of fun and real friendship every day.

Here are a few ideas of how you can create special moments at home:

MAKE YOUR HOME A FUN HOME

King Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes 8:15,

“I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun.”

Invest in a game, watch films together, create engaging conversation and laugh together! Take time to plan things that will re-energise the people in your household.

MAKE TIME FOR EACH OTHER

We all get busy from time to time, and sometimes we can become distant relationally from those in our home. The phrase ‘we are like passing ships in the night’ comes to mind.

Home is where we should find encouragement in tough times, grace when we make mistakes, and loyalty when we feel lonely or abandoned. This is all part of healthy communication and it can look different for different families and friends. Find out which rhythms work best for you. You could eat together at breakfast, chat whilst packing lunch for the day ahead, or share a quick piece of toast before bed. Make time for one another.

DO THINGS WITHOUT BEING ASKED

Believe it or not, housework doesn’t appeal to everyone (unless you’re the 1 in 7 billion that enjoys cleaning and in which case, we salute you).

Why not create a daily rhythm of spotting what needs doing and sorting it out? From tidying up to washing the dishes, from buying fresh food to freshening-up the bed sheets, those you live with you will feel blessed by your initiative.

Now, go create some stories in your home and don’t forget to let us know how it went!
